Significance of Diwali and the Tale of Ramayana

Diwali marks the return of lord Rama to his home kingdom Ayodhya, after being in exile for over 14 years.  It is a lot more than a simple celebration of joy and delight. It is an epic tale portraying the trials and tribulations overcome by Ram and how he triumphed in the end.

The tale of Lord Ram is based on the story of Ramayana written by sage Valmiki in the time around 500 BCE. The story closely follows the heroic saga of Lord Ram, and his consistent struggle to attain peace for all.
