Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, is the start day of the Diwali festival and celebrated two days before Diwali. It is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Ashvin of the Hindi calendar. Thus, it falls in the month of October or November of the Gregorian calendar. It is an auspicious festival and Hindus believe that buying gold or silver articles and new utensils on this day brings good luck.
