Janmashtami or Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated every year on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in Bhadrapad month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar. It usually falls in the month of August or September of the Gregorian calendar. This festival is celebrated particularly in Mathura and Vrindavan. Furthermore, we can also see Janmashtami celebrations in all other states of India. On this day, people celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna who is the eighth avatar of Vishnu. On the following day, the Nandotsav festival is celebrated. It celebrates the occasion when Nanda Baba distributed gifts to the local people in honor of the birth.
