Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in various countries on various dates. The idea behind celebrating this day is to give thanks and sacrifice for the blessing of the harvest. In the United States, Thanksgiving day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Whereas, in Canada, it is celebrated on the second Monday of October. In the Australian external territory of Norfolk Island, this day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of November. In Brazil, this celebration takes place on the fourth Thursday of November. Furthermore, Grenada has fixed its date on October 25. Thanksgiving Day in Liberia is celebrated on the first Thursday of November. In the Netherlands, it is observed on the first Wednesday in November. In Rwanda, it is celebrated on the first Friday of August. And, the nation of Saint Lucia celebrates this day on the first Monday of October.

Apart from this, similarly named festivals are also celebrated in other countries. For example, the Harvest Thanksgiving Festival, named Erntedankfest, is a popular German Christian festival on the first Sunday of October. In Japan, a similar festival named Kinrō Kansha no Hi is celebrated annually on November 23. Furthermore, there is not an official date for this festival in the United Kingdom but it is traditionally held on or near the Sunday of the harvest moon.
